Volcon’s Electric ‘Stag’ UTV Carries $40K Price Tag

This spring, we had a look at the Brabus Crawler, the first UTV from the German tuning and customization firm. The Crawler, a million-dollar super-dune-buggy, looks something like a Merc G-Wagen that’s been attacked by a madman with an acetylene torch and an equally delirious interior decorator. The result is a potent, posh and very, very capable escapist rig.

Far less pricey is this UTV by homegrown U.S. dirt-bike designer and builder Volcon ePowersports. Trading in a gas-burner for an electric powertrain, the firm’s first four-wheeler — which the company calls the Stag — is tagged at $40K, and looks just the thing for summer shenanigans. Its driver can take advantage of a pair of informative displays with HMI, or Human Machine Integration. It must be love.

The Stag’s juice comes from one motor powered by a 42 kWh battery; the setup can deliver 125 horsepower (a boost option brings the number to 140) and 265 foot-pounds of torque with no conversion lag. The Stag can reach a top speed of 80 MPH, but more important for this off-road, any-terrain wanderer is its 2000-pound towing capacity and 1,550-pound payload. It can travel 100 miles on a full charge.

But please, if you live in a coastal area, don’t tear up the local dune ecosystem.
