Julia Koch is the newest owner of a legendary 1920s estate out east. According to Page Six, she paid around $75 million for the property in Southampton, which is located near her main residence in the area.

A leviathan of a Tudor, the 15-bedroom mansion’s footprint breaks into extravagantly long wings, hinting at the rambling series of public and private living areas inside; indeed, the home’s interior spaces measure 22,000 sq. ft. across two floors, making it one of the larger houses among neighbors not lacking for abundant space.

The house was sold as a little bit of a fixer-upper. A tour of the home reveals a little of the wear and tear suffered by this coastal classic, but overall it manages to convey its spirit without showing marked dilapidation. It’s a remarkably unpretentious house in décor, with a lack of cohesion of design that comes off as charmingly idiosyncratic.

The home’s heavyweight Hamptons DNA comes to the fore in the great room — a soaring cathedral of a living space with windows bringing in views of the ocean, beach and scrub — and the kitchen, which has all the prewar charm and bulletproof hardware of the kitchen of an English country house; indeed, there is a butler’s kitchen, too.

The accommodations in this elder statesman include a four-bedroom staff wing. Outside, a tennis court, Gunite pool and walking path leading beachward — the property is deeded 500 feet of frontage — are highlights of the eight acres of grounds.

Koch is the richest woman in New York (and third-richest worldwide), with her net worth estimated at $60 billion.
