Pharrell Williams Takes $9.2M for Modernist Architectural in L.A.

After nearly two years on and off the market, music producer and vocalist Pharrell Williams has sold his 6,000 sq. ft. modern in Hollywood Hills. Williams initially listed the property in the spring of 2020 with an asking price of $12 million. The six-bedroom, six-bath closed recently at $9.2 million.

The exterior architecture is chilly and strident, with abrupt angles and long, uninterrupted straight lines combined with a huge amount of glass and steel. A look at the other modern Williams has owned in the past decade — which he purchased from Tyler Perry in 2018 for $15.6 million and sold for $14 million a couple of years later — reveals similarities; both homes balance chaste modernity with extraordinary extravagance.

The material choices at work in this house make for glitzy visuals. Figured hardwood accents, cabinetry and paneling, and dramatic natural stone adorn the master suite. The effect is most forceful in the bath, driven home by the ornate figuring and vibrant coloration of the limestone used.

The lot isn’t insubstantial, either. At 1.6 acres, it provides a suitable backdrop for a modern with such a leisurely footprint, and privacy too.
