Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio took some time out this winter to take a cruise around St. Barts aboard Vava II, the 315-foot megayacht owned by Swiss billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli. The vessel doesn’t appear to be available for charter, but then again, Leo wields massive star power and has friends in high places.

Bertarelli, who made his riches in the pharmaceutical industry, is a philanthropist and noted environmental activist with a special interest in marine conservation. He is co-founder and president of the Bertarelli Foundation, which helps advocate for and designate Marine Protected Areas, and was instrumental in creating the Chagos Marine Protected Area in the Indian Ocean.

Vava II was built by Devonport and launched in 2012. She features an explorer-inspired hull design and an aluminum superstructure; her beam measures 56 feet. She reportedly came with a price tag of about $150 million. Her amenities include an Airbus H145 helicopter.

This superyacht is powered by a quartet of MTU M70 engines, each of which produces 2334 horsepower. She cruises at up to 15 knots, and can reach a top speed of 19 knots. Her interiors were designed in a glitzy and atmospheric modernization of ‘classical nautical’, and include a large primary stateroom with a raised sleeping platform and a massive main salon with a full-sized bar and custom-designed sofas.

Vava II can accommodate between 22 and 36 guests. She has berthing for 34 crew members. Additional amenities on board this yacht include a 390-foot main tender.

Bertarelli’s net worth is north of $8 billion.

Dicaprio’s recently released Netflix feature Don’t Look Up became the second-most watched film on the platform only three weeks into its release, racking up 324 million viewing hours. His upcoming projects include Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, with Robert De Niro.
