If Cadillac is the king of American cars, then this example on the auction block currently is the King’s king, which would make it an example of compound pop-cultural royalty. With just 1,725 miles.
A rock-and-roll cream puff — and in custard yellow, no less — the Fleetwood Brougham rolled out of the rust belt and into a Memphis dealership in 1975. Elvis purchased it in the late summer, after the successful tour earlier that year. The car is being sold with full documentation from the sale; Elvis shook loose of $12,512 for the low rider.
The car packs a 500 cubic inch v8 engine, and it’s outfitted with a sunroof, which in 1975 was something of a treat on a passenger car. Its more purple-robed accoutrements include, to quote the auction information, five Vogue tires and a bonnet mounted ‘Goddess’ . The ‘Goddess’ is the hood ornament, which looks to have been borrowed from a Cadillac of an earlier era.
The car is currently located in Sweden; British outfit Car & Classic is handling the auction, which concludes on January 15th, 2022.
