One out, and one in.

Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio sold his longtime — although likely unused for years — beach escape in Malibu a few short weeks ago, seeing the property off in exchange for $10.3 million. He didn’t wait to divest himself of the dinero via reinvestment, though, and in the final days of autumn closed on a new property of his own, spending $9.9 million on a 1936-built 5,000 square-footer in Beverly Hills.

The house is a white stucco French Country-style home with casement windows and a ram’s head pediment over the entry; it also features level demarcation trim carved in a possibly arcane design. Its roofline is generally hipped but for a pyramid in front. The guest house — a converted garage — receives an especially dramatic roofline that suggests the medieval.

Renovations to the home’s interior have been artful, at least most recently. The staircase is a gem, with black risers and balustrade against natural-finished hardwood treads, while the transition from the living area’s classic herringbone hardwood to the high drama of the kitchen’s black-and-white chevron is genuinely effective. Original details likely include the living room’s milled moldings and decorative walls. Bedrooms are sunny and bright, with casement windows and, in the master, a hipped ceiling.

The outdoor living space is very inviting indeed. The suburban lot is protected by an insistent barrier of hedges, making the lawn and pool area a secluded nook. A fire pit has been added.

DiCaprio’s upcoming projects include Martin Scorsese-directed Western crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon, with Robert De Niro.
