Porsche is rapidly expanding its EV lineup for 2022, and refining the marketing of its current eco-sport-figurehead, the Taycan, to boot. The automaker announced this fall that a performance-oriented GTS trim level will be offered on the Taycan wagon, the Turismo, and the sedan version of the quicksilver electric as well.

Porsche announced the tweaking of the wagon’s subtitle, exchanging the vaguer ‘Cross Turismo’ for a more appealing ‘Sport Turismo’ for the GTS version, as it pushes the new upsell trim level for the Taycan duo; the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo will be available in 2022. Porsche’s press release asserts that the Sport Turismo body style is new, but a cursory comparison of the incoming Sport and elder Cross does not reveal changes. What is new is the GTS trim level. Porsche opted for blazing red examples for the photo shoot, enhancing the performance-oriented variants. To compliment the firebrand paint color, the GTS trim comes with the more aggressive SportDesign fascia.

The Overboost Power with Launch Control feature carries over from the standard Taycan, along with standard PASM. But the GTS includes torque vectoring as standard. Additionally, GTS-level Taycans come with a larger rear motor which features a two-speed transmission, giving the sporty sedan and wagon a heavyweight 590-horsepower output, and a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds.

GTS battery complements carry over from the Taycan ‘Turbo’ — Porsche marketing is sticking to its guns regarding that misnomer, by the way, at least for the upcoming model year — and Turbo S, with a 93.4 kWh Performance Battery Plus, which features hardy 800-volt architecture. Quick charge time: 22.5 minutes from 5-80%.

Wheels on the Taycan GTS variants are outfitted with larger front rotors, and there are options for surface-coated and ceramic-composite brakes. Additionally, Porsche’s Electric Sport Sound has been adjusted to turn additional heads.

The Taycan GTS models will start at $131,400, according Porsche.
