Julianne Moore Takes $15M for Manhattan Townhouse

Within months of selling off her secluded Hamptons getaway, actress Julianne Moore has shucked another New York residence. This time, the property is a city abode: a five-floor townhouse in the West Village.

The Hamptons cottage, a simple affair with all the soul of an old-fashioned Northeastern coastal summer cottage, went to a new buyer for $2.85 million, and brought to a close a span of over five years from Moore’s first listing of it in 2015. The townhouse wound up going for $15 million.

Moore had owned the 1905-built building since the early 2000s, and restored it back from its conversion to apartments. While the coastal cottage captured the spirit of a midcentury American summer, the townhouse is a design travel-log that sustains the build period nicely with original details like plank floors—which have accumulated a patina of wear that remains tastefully undisturbed—fireplaces, and exposed brick.

The residence’s layout puts the kitchen on the garden level; it’s illuminated by the glass in the back of the building, including a set of French doors that open to the courtyard garden. The main living space is on the second floor, while the third floor contains the master suite. The fourth floor contains the townhome’s other three bedrooms, and the fifth an office and media center.

Moore’s upcoming projects include Dear Evan Hansen and When You Finish Saving the World.
