This could be an offer you can’t refuse. So if you’ve got $70 million or thereabouts to drop on a famous 3.53-acre, 29,000 sq. ft. estate in the Los Angeles area, you may want to make an offer yourself.

The Beverly Hills property has become known as the Godfather Mansion, as it played the part of the residence of golden-age feature-film producer and horse’s ass Jack Woltz, who awoke one fine morning to find a horse’s head in his bed. But it was famous for being the Hearst Mansion long before Don Vito Corleone made unfortunate Mr. Woltz an offer of his own.

The interiors of the Mediterranean Revival leviathan are a tour-de-force of period detail. Most striking among them — and there’s a lot of competition for the honors — are the barrel ceiling in the living room, which features hand-carved wood and a series of hand-painted coffered panels, the eerily evocative art deco nightclub and, best of all for the readers out there, the two-level library with its ornate woodwork and paneling.

The Hearst estate is currently asking $69.95 million. The price has come down considerably since it first hit the market in 2016, at $195 million. It was most recently slashed by over twenty percent in the wake of bankruptcy proceedings.
