Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi completed an extended and unexpected U-turn this spring when they bought back the historic Spanish-style estate in Montecito they sold to Tinder man Sean Rad.

Parting with the property put $11 million in the duo’s collective pocket when they passed it on in the spring of 2018. In the spring of 2021, a return to Rancho San Leandro ran them $14.3 million. The transaction may be purely sentimental as they already own a property in the area; they recently purchased Dennis Miller’s Montecito compound for a cool $49 million.

Rancho San Leandro’s houses were lovingly restored in the 2000 and early 2010s. DeGeneres and de Rossi picked up the estate in 2017. The six-acre property’s interiors measure in at 6,764 sq. ft. Details of the two homes include vaulted ceilings with exposed hand-hewn timber, a fireplace with a stone hearth, and terra-cotta tile which is either original or well-sourced period-style replacement.

The adobe home features a large kitchen and a wine cellar. The second home boasts a splendid staircase with risers in mixed hand-painted tile, a colorful and artisanal statement. Between the two, accommodations shake out to four bedrooms and five baths.

Amenities in the homes include a formal library, and a space that has been transformed into an exercise studio. But this is a ranch, so there is also a stable with four stalls and a tack room, and some of the acreage is dedicated to paddocks for leisure and a dressage arena for training.

DeGeneres and de Rossi recently parted with a pedigreed Beverly Hills home; the sale put $47 million in their coffers.
