Julianne Moore Gets Her Price for $2.9M Hamptons Cottage

Actor Julianne Moore sold one of her Hamptons retreats just before spring; some lucky buyer stepped up with the $2.85 million ask to quietly close on the classical Northeast summer property, according to Dirt.

If there was a blue ribbon real estate-industry award for timelessness, this three-bedroom house would, sans swimming pool, be a strong contender; saline wind-blasted, New England coastal-utilitarian, and entirely unpretentious, it would look at home as the background of a 1950s black-and-white portrait shot in Downeast Maine.

The build date of the 2,500 sq. ft. residence puts it at 1940. A red brick chimney, screen door, screened porch, sash windows, and a layer of cedar shingles weathered gray sketch the exterior. Inside the home, circle-cut plank, exposed rafters, a brick fireplace and tongue-and-groove express an old-fashioned summer place where the living style is entirely dependent on the landscape, and the shelves are packed with paperbacks.

The screen porch is the natural magnet for warmer weather socializing. It takes in splendidly soothing views of sandy-bottomed fishing haven Fort Pond, and picks up the green trim of the exterior to great effect, given the plank and shingle walls and ceiling. The .69-acre lot is filled out mainly with lawn, with native flora and a pool and pool house completing a compelling idealized vision of good old American summertime.

According to public records, Moore purchased the property in 2007.

Moore’s upcoming projects include The Woman in the Window, with Amy Adams and Gary Oldman. She also lends her voice to computer-animated film Spirit Untamed.
