Actor Rami Malek — who gave a star turn as glam rocker Freddie Mercury in 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody — picked up a Laurel Canyon property this spring for $2.1 million.

According to Dirt, the property is across the street from a home Malek owns with his brother, turning this corner of the creative enclave into a little compound this spring when he acquired this two-and-two on .44 acres.

The 1,797 sq. ft. house would make an ideal guest accommodation, but the nearly half acre of additional breathing room and privacy was likely top of the list of reasons for the purchase. The views from the wraparound terrace that takes best advantage of the hilltop lot makes a convincing argument too, of course.

The highlight of the 1960-built home’s interiors is the living room, which has been given a blazing white treatment and a purist midcentury fireplace; a pair of large shoji screens adds the Eastern design dimension common to the period’s sensibilities.

The open-concept shared space transitions to a formal dining room with brown/bronze-toned textured wall covering that’s a bit more confining, but the views from the glass in the exterior wall extend things nicely. A pool and pool house cap the exterior with a pair of upper-end residential necessities.

Malek’s other roles include the lead in the TV hit Mr. Robot. His upcoming film projects include James Bond installment No Time to Die, with Daniel Craig, and period drama Canterbury Glass, with Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, Robert De Niro, Mike Myers, and Chris Rock.
