A Look at Bill Gates’ Desert Retreat in Indian Wells

Recent news finds tech-age navigator Bill Gates spending time at a high-end golf lifestyle resort in Indian Wells, California.

According to The Daily Mail, the Microsoft founder has been living at the community—called The Vintage Club—since the late winter. The article speculated that the quiet and insulated nature of the club would be ideal for a high-profile figure dealing with a correspondingly high-profile divorce. Understandable.

The Vintage Club opened in 1980. Gates has owned a residence there for over thirty years; he paid $12.5 million for a luxuriant six-bed manse at the exclusive community in 1990. A membership comes with an initial fee of $250,000.

There are 500 luxury residences in the community, as well as a clubhouse that contains the club’s primary restaurant, a poolside restaurant, 11 tennis courts, an 18,000 sq. ft. ‘Spa & Wellness Center’ that offers personal trainers and group classes, and a championship 18-hole golf course.

Gates has donated over $50 billion to charitable causes. His net worth is around $130 billion.
