The special-edition 812 that Ferrari introduced last month has been given an official name, instead of a designation. The automaker revealed the car in full detail recently. And rolled out a bonus as well.

The track-inspired variation on the Superfast theme was initially rumored to be called the Versione Speciale. It still is a special version, but its official moniker is the 812 Competizione. Moreover, it enters the picture hand in hand with an open-air sibling: the Competizione A.

As reported, the variant improves on the 812’s impressive fundamental performance numbers. By way of modifications or a partial redesign, it squeezes nearly 30 additional horsepower out of the Superfast’s 6.5L V12 engine, bringing the rating to 818. The powerplant can be spurred to an astonishing 9,500 revolutions per minute.

To bring that power home, Ferrari embarked on an unusual campaign of sonic enhancement for the limited-edition pair. Two sets of resonators have been installed, and a new exhaust tailpipe was added along with a gasoline particulate filter.

The Competizione’s aero kit builds on the 812 by adding new air ducts and a new patented front bumper and rear screen; the rear screen is closed, and is outfitted with ‘vortex generators’ for additional downforce. Braking power and cooling have also been adjusted for the Competizione variants.

Pricing starts around $600,000 for the coupe and $700,000 for the drop-top, though that is unlikely to matter; both cars are, of course, sold out.
