Actress Dakota Johnson and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin are the new owners of this 5,350 sq. ft. contemporary farmhouse in Southern California. The couple closed on the property recently for $12.5 million.

The 2008-built estate is situated on over an acre of intensely green and private land in Malibu’s Point Dume neighborhood. The home’s façade boasts a trio of roof dormers and a mix of roof shapes—pyramid, gable and gambrel—giving it considerable visual complexity.

Inside the home, the shared living spaces are open-concept. Notable design elements include the towering quartets of firewood storage cubicles that flank the fireplace, a substantial rustic flourish which goes a long way to defining the living style. Plank or tongue-and-groove walls (and, in the kitchen, ceiling), wide-plank hardwood floors, and a wraparound second floor gallery with a simple steel balustrade are other details of the common area.

An alcove breakfast room in a glassy window-seat booth with views of the water is one of the more appealing spots in the home, and is echoed by the soaking tub alcove in the master bath, one of nine on the estate.

The grounds are filled out with a BBQ, a pool, and a two-level detached guest house with a bedroom and bath, and an entertainment area with retractable glass walls and a wet bar on the first level.

Johnson’s upcoming films include Am I Ok? and The Lost Daughter.

Coldplay has sold over 100 million records worldwide. Their latest studio album is 2019’s Everyday Life.
