Last February, NBA star Dwight Howard made his return to the West Coast official by listing his D.C. home up for sale for $2.475 million. Howard—who had been playing with the Wizards before signing again with the Lakers—sold the property this month for about $2 million.

The residence is the penthouse at the Pierce School Lofts. Dating to the 1890s, the building was converted in the early 2010s. Naturally, many of the historic details were left intact, as features that give each unit its individual persona.

Howard’s now-former penthouse is a duplex unit. It measures in at well over 10,000 square feet, with five bedrooms in all. Original details include floors, doors, cabinetry and ceilings, as well as transom windows. Plentiful red brick and gloss-finished hardwood give the place a very warm feel, but the coolly industrial staircase acts as ballast for the effusion.

A kitchen with a massive center island and a master bedroom with what appears to be an original cabinet are standout spaces in the residence.

Howard had owned the property for about two years at the time of the sale.
