Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi List Newly Updated Tudor in Montecito for $6.9M

Earlier this year, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi closed on this historic Tudor-style home in Montecito. The 1986-built house boasts bones with a unique providence: they come from a pair of English barns that date to the 1700s.

The couple has put their unique revisionary stamp on the home, as expected, and listed it with an asking price of $6.9 million. The alterations include a full update of the main kitchen, which has taken it from an earthy rusticity to a slickly contemporary look, with commercial storage, a top-end stove, and a vaguely Asian-inspired feel with pale hardwood cabinetry, black soapstone countertops, and floating shelves. Other obvious alterations include a whitewashing of the brick fireplace and chimney, and an Asian-inspired master bath treatment.

The exposed timber, plaster, leaded windows and French doors, and much of the flooring transfers intact. As does the home’s spirit, of course, and the living style, inside and out; the house is brightly naturalistic, referencing the green lot via abundant glass, and opening broadly to terraces and patios.

The property’s landscaping is as romantic as ever, with meandering stone paths, gardens, plantings and mature trees in the 1.35 acres of grounds.
