Last September, Lou Ferrigno—the actor who portrayed the titular character on the Incredible Hulk—purchased a mansion in Central California for $2.9 million. The little estate overlooking Pismo Beach made Ferrigno’s house in the Los Angeles area superfluous, and a month after his new purchase was inked and registered, this cottage in Santa Monica hit the market.

Ferrigno initially wanted $3.9 million for the pre-WWII residence, but six months with nary an acceptable offer has led him to modify his expectations by four hundred thousand, and hang a new price tag of $3.5 million on the place. Not bad, as the home has charm to spare.

The home’s tonal palette, with its setting, creates an invitational atmosphere; a white picket arbor property entry gives way to a red brick walkway and a soft white exterior, all of it framed in verdant landscaping. A pleasing preamble, and one which sets up the inevitable interior overhaul extremely well.

With 3,500 square feet to play with, there is room to render this house as something quite magical. As it stands, it features blazing white walls and ceilings, with plank hardwood to warm things up a little and bring a bit of texture into play; the red brick fireplace in the living room stands out in relief against all the white.

The backyard speaks for itself, with mature trees and a patio offering a secluded feel. The garage has been converted into a fitness studio.
