Television personality and occasional singer of standards Regis Philbin hefted his Connecticut manor onto the market this month with an asking price of $4.595 million. That represents a substantial discount on its $7.2 million purchase price in 2008. The marketing of the home represents a significant change for Philbin, who, with his longtime spouse Joy, has called the estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, his home base for over a decade.

The English manor-style house looks right at home in Greenwich. A lengthy drive terminating at a circular motor court with a centerpiece planting is a classic preamble, and the home’s exterior—three stories of stone with a shingled, hipped roof—lords over its wooded setting.

The home’s interiors are as characteristically English country house as its architecture, working many familiar and comfortingly blue-blooded tropes in along the way. The two-story foyer is tasteful, suggesting scale without ostentation, presided over by a modest chandelier and supported by a single Ionic column. Its glossy stone tile transitions to hardwood as the interiors progress.

The living room features series of bay windows and walls dressed in a meditative, muted blue. The kitchen boasts the upscale Connecticut country style, a slick mix of cottagey hominess and Manhattan bedroom-community urbanity.

The great room is the heart of the 6-bed, 12-bath home, though, a cavernous two-story affair with an outside wall which is glass-heavy: three sets of French doors crowned with a series of clerestories. Other standout spaces include the sunroom, the wood-paneled library, and the exterior terrace.

The property’s amenities include a games room with a wet bar, a home theater, a wine cellar, and a sauna, gym, and tennis court. The estate is situated on a nearly three-acre lot just south of the Stanwich Club grounds, and boasts landscaping that mixes forest and groomed lawn, making for leisurely and meditative views during warm weather afternoons by the pool.

Philbin’s career began in the early 1960s, and has continued to the present day.
