Tobey Maguire’s newest real estate investment is this midcentury modern ranch in the Homewood neighborhood in L.A. Maguire paid an estimated $6.96 million for the property.

Producer Nina Jacobson was the previous owner, and she apparently came very close to her asking price of $6.995 million. She also didn’t have a terribly long wait to see the home into ownership past-tense, having listed it on the open market in early June of this year.

The house dates to 1950. From the street, it presents a suitably period façade, and a tasteful one as well: wood grain, stone, poured concrete, and dark grey paint make the first impression one of circumspection and understatement.

Inside, the house settles into a neat midcentury tradition quickly, and doesn’t readily deviate from it. The open common area and buoyant feel of the original interior architecture hasn’t been fussed with, and the home’s interiors are appealingly quaint, bright, and cerebral. Sliding glass, quaintly dated walnut cabinetry and storage, hardwood or concrete floors, and accent walls to establish form in the open-concept living spaces define the living style.

There are four bedrooms and 5 baths in about 3,200 square feet of interior living space, and with the exception of a fixtures and a contemporary soaking tub, the accommodations keep to the midcentury feel. If the furniture was included, the home was sold as a nostalgic concept space: modern chairs and sofas, and a marvelous period amoeba coffee table, help decorate the home.
