When Spelling Manor—the one-time trophy estate of producer Aaron Spelling—was initially offered on the open market by now-former owner Petra Ecclestone, it was priced at $200 million. It needed a couple of substantial price chops and about four years to sell, but sell it did; this month, the grandiose property fetched $119.8 million against its last ask of $120 million.

The buyer was none other than billionaire Daryl Katz. Katz’s recent residential real estate purchases include a magnificent contemporary estate in Malibu—that property also necessitated the shelling out of $120 mil. Both properties are, of course, extraordinary.

Between the two, Spelling Manor is the opulent palace; it’s the one Charles Foster Kane would’ve selected. The symmetrical limestone house measures 55,000 square feet, and features a winged design. It was erected in the late 1980’s, on the site where Bing Crosby’s famous George Kaufman-designed home base had stood.

Spelling Manor contains an astounding 120 rooms, with 14 bedrooms and 27 baths among them. The breadth of space allows for a long, long list of amenities: a night club, a barbershop, a beauty salon, a large screening room with a projection booth, a service wing with staff accommodations, and a bowling alley. One floor of one wing is dedicated to closet space.

The estate’s extensive acreage is similarly comprehensive. An orchard, lawns, a baroque garden, a tennis court, lawns, a pool with a summer kitchen and bar, and a koi pond.

Katz’s net worth is north of $3 billion.
