Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones Asking $32.5M for Exquisite Estate in Southern Europe—Down From $60M

It’s been five years since Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones first listed their idyllic retreat in Mallorca, Spain, for $60 million. Finding a buyer for the unique property has proved difficult, but the couple has reduced the ask once again, and is now offering the property at $32.5 million.

The property—which had once been owned by early conservationist Archduke Ludwig Salvator, an Austrian nobleman who fell in love with the island in the middle of the 19th century—is called S’Estaca.

The estate is comprised of seven structures, and contains ten bedrooms in the main house, and the cottages and apartments scattered around it; with nearly 250 acres of grounds supporting the living style, and 11,000 square feet of interiors, there’s an abundance of breathing room on the estate. The living spaces are lovely and surprising, and boast an astonishing series of period details; meditative views of the Mediterranean are a constant. Olive groves, walkways, exterior staircases, forest, and a small vineyard are all on the grounds.

The estate is comprehensive, and amounts to a small resort—indeed, it’s surprising no commercially-minded buyer has come along with a plan for a tranquil, remote, luxury retreat for a small number of well-heeled guests in one hand, and a satchel full of cash in the other. With a wine cellar (complete with iron gates and historic-looking casks), a library, a spa, and an entertainment room, the place is designed to be a sanctuary; its historical weight, location and beauty invest it with an almost spiritual feel.

Douglas and Zeta-Jones have invested in a video promoting the property. The visual tour features a voiceover by Douglas.
