The only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in Houston has surfaced on the open market. The Usonian home is priced at $2.85 million.

The Bunker Hill neighborhood residence is one of just three homes in the Lone Star State to be designed by the iconic architect. It was built in the 1950s, and boasts Wright’s iconic cohesive, ‘organic’ architectural style inside and out.

From the street, the home looks vaguely like a civic building; significant renovations include an expansion from its original 1,800 square feet to its current 8,100 square feet, giving it a sprawling layout to match its mid-century architecture.

Purists shouldn’t panic, though. Kirksey Architecture was the creative force behind the massive additions, and they maintained the look and feel of Wright’s design aesthetic. Wright’s material choices were typically unusual, and blended luxuriance, local relevance, and mass-production affordability, and this five-bedroom, 6.5-bath residence boasts redwood and mahogany, polished concrete floors and an astonishing accumulation of glass.

The most impressive space is likely the great room, which features double-height ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass walls, and a massive double-sided central fireplace. The feel is continued outside as well, with an enclosed patio with a swimming pool and a courtyard completing the living style.
