Elon Musk Lists High Modern in L.A. for $4.5M

Elon Musk listed one of his residential properties this month. The modestly sized home in Los Angeles—one of several in the area owned by the Tesla and SpaceX founder—has been priced at $4.499 million. Musk has owned it for about five years, and purchased it for $3.7 million, according to public records.

The house is an attractive example of a high modern design. It features a unique stylistic flourish: an unbroken line that begins at terra firma streetside and winds its way to the back of the home, where a long, gracefully expressive arc defines the relaxed living style, and is reflected by the pool, patio and landscaping. The result is an unusually cohesive vision, and a sense of connection between home and landscape.

From the appealing backyard perspective, the residence is glassy and warm; an interior tour bears out the impression. Stacked stone, plank oak and custom cabinetry offer an abundance of warmth to act as ballast for the strong lines, and the open shared living area is extremely inviting as a result. A broad fireplace accent wall with an extended raised hearth puts the finishing touch on the period feel.

The house is a four-and-four; the accommodations culminate in a master suite that opens broadly to the pool and patio via a glass wall. The bath features custom cabinetry and a soaking tub, and the space is completed with a walk-in closet.

Musk stepped down as chair of Tesla last year, but remains CEO and guiding spirit of the EV automaker.
