Businessman and producer Sidney Kimmel has decided to sell the penthouse condo at the Ritz-Carlton Residences, a property he’s owned for almost twenty years. Kimmel is asking $39.5 million for the full-floor home near the top of the historic building in midtown.

The landmark building at 50 Central Park South was, at one time, the Hotel St. Moritz. It was designed by Emory Roth and completed in 1930. Kimmel and his wife Caroline picked up the unit for $29 million in 2001.

Occupying the 27th floor, the spacious condo features a marvelously compartmentalized layout that allows it to unfold gradually, enhancing the sense of space. It also features a single bedroom, aside from a staff room. The master suite occupies nearly half of the condo’s floor space, and incorporates an office with a barrel ceiling, a sitting room, a dressing room, a large walk-in closet, and a pair of baths.

The unit begins with an entry gallery defined by ornate bronze. The library and living room—the latter is grounded by a splendid period fireplace—are connected by a wet bar, and a generously proportioned formal dining room sits in a corner position. The galley-style kitchen is designed with dark wood and beige granite.

The expansive wrap-around terrace adds over 1,000 square feet to the unit’s living space. Views of the park are as stunning as expected.

Kimmel’s production company—Sidney Kimmel Entertainment—is familiar to anyone who likes contemporary film. The company has helped movies like ‘Synecdoche, New York’ and ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ make it to the big screen.

Kimmel is a noted philanthropist; he has donated in the hundreds of millions to various causes supporting healthcare, education, arts, and culture. His net worth is estimated at $1.3 billion.
