Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse racing arm unveiled this devastating-looking track Urus concept. But the reveal wasn’t only to show off the company’s design acumen and race cred. The Urus—variant ST-X—will be the car used in Lambo’s next one-make series, set to debut in 2020.

The Urus ST-X is a track vehicle through and through, with a steel roll cage, a fuel cell instead of a tank, and fire protection to withstand the unthinkable. As expected, much of the luxe stuffing is gone, helping the Urus ST-X shed a quarter of the weight of a production street legal Urus.

The ST-X’s other track-ready features include a side exhaust, 21-inch center-lock wheels, and a few carbon fiber additions. And the engine will remain the same as the regular production Urus—as 4L bi-turbo V8 that produces 650 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque.

Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse team will roll out the Urus ST-X in the flesh at some point next year, ahead of the first event in 2020. The mixed-surface races will take place on custom made FIA courses in the Middle East and Europe.

Those racers with deep enough pockets to enter the races will be able to check in and get behind the wheel. The series follows Jaguar’s I-Pace eTROPHY single-make series, which debuts next year, and will overlap with Formula E events.
