Steel company CEO John Bates is looking to move on from his not-quite-completed Michigan mansion. Bates is asking $29 million for the grandiose project, which is located about 20 miles from Detriot.

Construction on the luxurious Grosse Ile housing project began 11 years ago, but, for whatever reason, the home was left unfinished. But the property is currently the most expensive home on the market in the Great Lakes State. The next most expensive home in the area is listed for just $1.1 million.

Even unfinished, the 16,855-square-foot limestone French chateau-style home wows with a double-height grand foyer boasting dual staircases. The blueprints call for eight bedrooms and 15 bathrooms.

Most of the exterior seems to be done, but the interior is about halfway completed. This does mean that potential buyers could really customize the home to their liking. However, some elements are already set in stone, like the spacious living room complete with a floor-to-ceiling fireplace. There are nine fireplaces throughout the house.

The most impressive space is the unfinished solarium conservatory. A partially built indoor swimming pool designed to boast a waterfall was planned for this space; it has been started, but is also not finished.

What is completed, though, is the large private dock fit for a boat or two; the waterfront property is set directly on the Detroit River.
