Going once, going twice, sold! That’s likely what will be said at RM Sotheby’s Monterey, California, auction where a limited Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR will hit the auction block later this month.
Experts are predicting that the racing version of Mercedes’ CLK GTR will sell for somewhere between $4.25 million and $5.25 million. The vehicle’s unique history, and the fact that it is chassis No. 9 of 25, will help the bidding along.
Mercedes-Benz AMG created these special supercars to contribute to the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile’s newly establish top-tier GT series. The series exclusively included race cars inspired by some of the best, most exclusive road cars of the time.
This 1998 Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR embodies power and strength thanks to a naturally-aspirated 6.9-liter V12 engine. Both the racing and production vehicles featured this engine setup, and both are capable of producing 604 hp and 572 lb-ft of torque.
What makes this model even more valuable is its original bodywork, engine, and paint…and an odometer reading of just under 900 miles. Chances are this supercar will sell for even more than expected.
