The New ‘488 Pista’ Packs Ferrari’s Most Powerful V8 Ever

Luxury Italian automaker Ferrari has introduced its newest: the 488 Pista. The new Italian on the block is a souped-up version of the 488 GTB. Ferrari sees it as an evolution of the 458 Speciale.

The aggressive new supercar boasts an exaggerated appearance. Bulked-up design language gives it an overtly muscular track-ready look that speaks F1 in no uncertain terms. ‘Pista’ is Italian for ‘racetrack,’ which gives you a good idea of where the car’s design foundations can be located.

The 488 Pista’s 3.9L bi-turbo V8 produces 711 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. That’s more oomph than the 458 Speciale, and a 51 hp and 8 lb-ft increase from the 488 GTB.  There’s a lot of carbon fiber involved in keeping the Pista under 2,850 pounds; even the 20″ wheels are fabricated from the super-rigid, super-light material.

The car can zip to 62 MPH in just 2.85 seconds, and reach a top speed of over 210 MPH. Now that’s fast, and that’s without taking the zero-to-124 mph leap of only 7.6 seconds into consideration. Details on track performance for the new Ferrari haven’t yet been released by the company, but the curiosity-inducing aero hints at the model’s handling potential.

Pricing hasn’t yet been announced, either. But Ferrari might grace us with a few more details at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, when the Pista makes its official debut.
