Rock-and-roller Billy Joel may be deciding to spend time on a horse farm in Florida. The legendary musician recently parted with $3.5 million to acquire a five-acre ranch in Wellington, Florida.

Wellington is a community near West Palm Beach that has become very popular with equestrian-minded folks since it was incorporated in the 1990’s. The village is home to the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, and is popular with celebrities; past or present owners of property in Wellington include Madonna and Tommy Lee Jones. The sylvan village is home to a series of appealing amenities, including numerous parks, but it is best known as a mecca for horse-lovers. Joel’s wife is Alexis Roderick, a noted competitive equestrian.

The farm is geared specifically to dressage training, a particularly meticulous class of equestrian sports. The farm, then, includes a regulation dressage ring, a barn with a dozen stalls and tack room, groom’s quarters, and paddocks.

The residence is somewhat secondary; this is a property built for a purpose, and interior living spaces are purely functional. The purchase increases Joel’s existing ownership in Wellington; he owns the neighboring property as well, having purchased it in 2016. All told, he now owns a ten-acre spread in Wellington.

Roderick is a former executive; she and Joel wed in 2015. Joel will play Madison Square Garden this March.
