Music producer, singer and disc jockey Calvin Harris has a new place to hang his many hats when he’s on the West Coast. The pastiche-minded Harris picked up a traditional-style home in Hollywood Hills before the holidays, dropping a cool $5 million on the property.

The home’s tricked-out recording studio and practice room, which spans both stories of the residence, was likely the siren song for the young performer. The studio has been used to record film scores and notable record albums in its existence.

The house has an interesting celebrity history; apparently, it was built in the late 1930’s by an owner of Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Its first occupant was actress Rhonda Fleming.

From the street, the home presents a substantial first impression, with a two-story bank of windows and a gray exterior. Inside, the sense of scale is liberating, with the great room featuring a double-height ceiling, a spectacular open staircase, and a second-floor gallery.

The home contains four bedrooms and five baths in its roughly 6,100 square feet of living space. It incorporates guest or staff accommodations in its layout, with the primary residence of three bedrooms located on one side of the home, and a guest room on the opposite side, with its own kitchen and bath.

Harris’ most recent studio effort is this year’s ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1’; the album was a commercial high-water mark for Harris.
