Guns N’ Roses Guitarist Slash Sells Beverly Hills Mansion to Rapper Big Sean for $8.7M

Big Sean is moving into Slash’s house in Beverly Hills. If that isn’t an ideal metaphor for the changing U.S. music scene at this point in history, then Neil Young was right about Chuck Berry, and bebop is due for a big commercial comeback. Call it a changing of the guard.

Well, the heavyweight guitarist—arguably the last of his kind—shouldn’t be too upset. He managed to collect a sizeable pile of cashola for the home: $8.7 million. The house had been listed with an initial asking price of $11 million. Slash picked it up for a little more than $6 million in 2009.

The house looks pretty unassuming from the outside. A modern Spanish-style, it features second-floor balconies, an arched entryway, and enough wrought iron to give the effect some credence. The back of the home is dominated by an arcade porch, with a fair amount of big glass, and sets of French doors leading from the pool and lawn to the entertaining-ready living room.

The interiors looks fairly staid, too: a bit of Andalusian influence, a big, bright kitchen that charms readily, a neoclassical-inspired fireplace mantel in dark wood and limestone. Then, however, the rock-and-roll begins to shine through: the bar/lounge with skull-motif wallpaper and a stripper pole provides a niche for the uninhibited. Showing this part of the home might’ve been tricky, as serious buyers attracted to this particular room could’ve been inspired to spontaneously party down, especially if they were packing hip flasks of tequila.

Big Sean’s 2017 studio album ‘I Decided’ found a number one spot upon release, and went platinum; the album may have been too mature for some critics, who seemed to fault it for avoiding rap and hip-hop tropes in favor of self-exploration.

Slash, a founding member of Guns N’ Roses, rejoined the band last year after a long hiatus. The rockers are currently on a wildly successful extended tour.
