Ford‘s iconic Shelby Mustang is known for offering drivers plenty of power on the road, and the latest Shelby package aims to change the game most forcefully: the kit will bring a Mustang’s horsepower production rating to over 1,000.

Shelby American has successfully paired the American muscle car with the incredible strength and performance of a supercar. Sadly, the Shelby 1000 option is limited to the racetrack since the car isn’t compliant with the emissions regulations to make it street legal.

Just introduced at SEMA 2017, the new vehicle package is based on the current-model Mustang, adding some serious hardware. Gone is the stock engine, and in its place is a supercharged 5.2L V8 powerhouse, with reinforced fuel and cooling systems.

The new Mustang features a number of aesthetic upgrades, too, with the addition of a vented hood, a new front fascia, flared fenders, a new rear fascia with a diffuser, and special Shelby 20-inch wheels.

In addition to the cost of the base Mustang, the special Shelby 1000 conversion package is available for $169,995. The total expected price is said to average around $219,995, but interested customers should act quickly since Shelby is only creating 50 of the special cars a year.
