Former CBS news anchor Katie Couric has listed a former home on the Upper East Side. The journalist is asking $8.25 million for the property, a third-floor apartment located at 1155 Park Avenue, a prewar co-op situated in the Carnegie Hill neighborhood.

The apartment extends to roughly 3,000 square feet; there are five bedrooms and 4.5 baths throughout, and a total of ten rooms in the unit.

The apartment is gracefully modest and beautifully appointed, with period details defining it very well. The living room presents a beautiful sense of proportion, and the oversized windows bring a particularly fine section of Manhattan into close proximity; the lower floor allows for more intimate city views, which contribute to the sense of openness that permeates the property. A relaxed approach to interior design leaves spaces to speak for themselves, with the rustic, Mediterranean kitchen a stylized exception; the tile floors and hand painted accents make a convincing argument.

Elsewhere, oak parquet and plank floors bring texture and substance to the spaces. The mix of cool and warm tones, and easygoing, homespun touches present a living space which hasn’t been overthought. An unpretentious residence, and one which charms through its sense of proportion, excellent flow, lack of self-consciousness, and acute sense of connection to city life.

Couric’s career has included long stints at the news divisions of the Big Three; she also spent fifteen years as a host on ‘Today,’ and hosted her own talk show, ‘Katie.’ She is currently involved in several projects through her production company, Katie Couric Media, including a six-part series on gender for National Geographic.
