McLaren Automotive’s newest appearance in an edition of Gran Turismo comes by way of this concept car of the near future: the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo.

The Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo is an answer to a call from the game’s creator and lead designer Kazunori Yamauchi for ‘Vision GT’ concept models, ideas from exotic carmakers describing hypercar designs twenty years in the future. What might 2030 hold for McLaren drivers?

Advanced active aerodynamics, first and foremost. The Ultimate Vision is peppered with small intake apertures that compensate for the car’s speed, position, and cornering momentum, adjusting downforce as necessary. The idea represents the logical evolution for presently employed active aerodynamic designs, but projects the concept as a far more acutely interactive system.

The positioning of the driver is also paramount to thrill-driving in 2030. Gamers will operate the Ultimate Vision in a forward position—the experience will be similar to driving a motorcycle, says McLaren’s Rob Melville. The driver’s perspective will be expanded, as well, by a panoramic glass cockpit, allowing for an ideal view of the road.

As far as power is concerned, the Ultimate Vision isn’t all-electric, as the pragmatic might expect. Instead, the car gets a hybrid treatment: a 4.0L bi-turbo V8 is supplemented by a pair of electric motors for the front wheels. Horsepower checks in at 1,134, providing 940 pound-feet of torque. Power-to-weight ratio, then, is very high in this vision of 2030, as the Ultimate Vision weighs just over 2,200 pounds.

Drivers anxious to try their mettle with a future McLaren speedster need not wait twenty years to do so. The Ultimate Vision will be featured in Gran Turismo Sport, the newest edition of the series for PS4, available to purchase October 17.
