The impressive machine boasts a refined aesthetic free of the hulking stainless and/or plastic excesses of standard machines. In place of the unnecessary bulk is a hand-built wooden base and anodized components. A classic manual piston design pushes the hot water through a cylinder and coffee basket.

Not much is actually needed to craft espresso, and Newton’s makers decided to entirely forgo the extraneous. And, as any espresso-purist will tell you, such a simplified design offers the best barista-quality coffee. In this case, it also offers eminent portability.
