A beautiful Cartier watch once belonging to first lady Jackie Kennedy has been purchased at auction by Kim Kardashian West.
The gold watch was sold by Christie’s in New York City, and while the bidder is technically “anonymous,” TMZ reports that the lucky winner is the famous Kardashian reality TV star.
Although the watch was expected to fetch roughly $120,000, it sold for more than three times that amount, closing with a $379,500 winning bid.
Kennedy received the timepiece from her brother-in-law Prince Stanislaw Radziwill in 1963. The watch was a gift from Radziwill in commemoration of a historic 50-mile hike he participated in to honor President Theodore Roosevelt, and Teddy’s imperative to all Marines.
Simple and elegant, the watch features an engraving on the back that details its provenance, and the date and times of the 1963 hike: ‘Stas to Jackie 23 Feb. 63 2:05 AM to 9:35 PM.’
