Selena Gomez Picks up a Truly Remarkable East Coast Traditional in Studio City for $2.2M

Pop-culture fixture Selena Gomez has a new place to hang her hat. The actress and singer recently parted with $2.2 million to call a Los Angeles traditional home.

Well, maybe traditional with mid-century modern flourishes, as the house dates to the early 1950’s. Series windows, an open floor plan and, interestingly, an attached backyard pergola with green fiberglass shade panels all point to mid-century, modern, or both. As a playful Victorian flourish, an eyebrow dormer window distinguishes the otherwise understated façade; it becomes an identifying motif of the property when it is reprised over the entrance gate at the street.

Some nice details here. The front drive may be a staid grid of grass-bordered concrete, but inside there are herringbone tile floors, original plank hardwood, skylights, period pendant lighting, and clerestory windows. A brick fireplace looks slightly out of place, but the brick used for the cooking niche makes the kitchen a little trattoria-style. Vaulted ceilings help give the home a sense of ongoing process, or motion.

The house offers good interior/exterior flow, as any good California residence should: the exterior is a pleasant blend of brick patios, stone-bordered pool, strips of green, and outdoor lounging and dining area. A grille and prep area is nestled into an alcove.

Selena Gomez is currently busy as executive producer of the Netflix series ’13 Reasons Why’; the program began airing two months ago. Her last studio album, 2015’s ‘Revival,’ went platinum.
