If you’ve ever been curious about the design ethos, manufacturing methods, and automotive theory and history behind the Bugatti Chiron, you may want to check out the National Geographic episode of ‘How It’s Made’ that deals with the Chiron from the ideas up.

A look into the world of Bugatti design and building isn’t only for those driven to distraction by the fastest and most beautiful creations on four wheels. It’s also for anyone curious about the processes endemic to craftsmanship itself.

The program takes an in-depth look at the limited edition Chiron—how it’s built, tested, and made into a finished product—a process which takes a year, give or take, from initial customer order to final road-testing. It also interviews key members of the Bugatti team for insights into the philosophy, approach, and construction methods used.

The Bugatti Chiron boasts an 8L, 16-cylinder engine, which will launch the car to 60MPH in a blistering 2.5 seconds; its top unlimited speed is supposedly in the neighborhood of 290, but it has not yet been officially tested. It features a carbon fiber body structure, and all-wheel drive system. The company’s past limited-ed model is the Veyron, a 64-cylinder, ten-radiator monster that tops out at 253MPH, with a Super-Sport edition that—with its electronic speed limiter switched off—tops out at 268.

If you’ve always wanted a Bugatti, this program may have you saving your Franklins and selling your blue chips to get in an order before the last one rolls out into daylight. If you’re ambivalent about Bugatti and its ilk, it’s still an interesting forty-five minutes.
