Snowboarding Champion Shaun White Lists Oceanfront Contemporary in Encinitas for $8M

Snowboarder and skateboarder Shaun White has put his Encinitas house on the market. The Olympic athlete is asking $7.995 million for the property, which last sold in 2012, for $3.85 million. It has been offered as a rental by White, off and on, since 2015.

The renovated home dates to 1999 and, though bearing some modern design elements, is a pleasant beachfront box—a little generic, but boasting excellent interior-exterior flow, and a fairly dramatic dark wood-whitewash contrast. Wrought iron staircase rails and a round chandelier hint at Spanish influence, and recessed fixtures augment the modern look.

Most importantly, though, the outside deck is two-tiered, and two sets of folding glass open the common living area up to the Pacific. This is a beachfront getaway, and the interior of the house may be important, but its relation to the ocean is essential. On the landward side of the home, a set of glass French doors brings in more light. Windows are nicely unadorned, and do not distract from the beauty of the location.

The kitchen might be the nicest room of the house. There’s the expected stainless, yes, but the open cabinets and storage add some 90’s optimism to the overall atmosphere, and the center island and breakfast bar is very inviting.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist White has diverse business interests that include a clothing line, a sports and music festival, and numerous endorsements across a broad spectrum of products and services.
