Actor Viola Davis recently sold her home in Grenada Hills. The selling price of $1.2 million represents a negligible gain for Davis, who purchased the property in 2006 for $1.17 million. The house had been on the market since last year, when the actor purchased a much larger home in Toluca Lake.

The Grenada Hills home measures about 4,000 square feet, and contains five bedrooms and five baths. The house’s exterior is unremarkable; the design probably dates to the early- to mid-1960’s.

The home’s interior begins with a double-height foyer, a lantern chandelier from the period, and an arcing staircase in dark walnut-stained hardwood. The floors of the home alternate between pale and dark wood.

Davis’s selections for room colors run the gamut from very warm to very, very cool; one bedroom is dressed in a color located somewhere between periwinkle and electric violet, while the dining room is painted a considerably warmer red. Elsewhere, powder blue or beige briefly prevail. The kitchen is dark cabinetry and beige, with mosaic tile counter backsplashes, stainless, and granite counter and island caps.

The exterior of the property makes good use of its space; a lagoon-style pool looks engineered enough to appear quite dated, but still appeals as a secretive retreat. The grounds are landscaped nicely with palms, ferns, and mainly deciduous trees and shrubs.

Viola Davis’s recent Academy Award for ‘Fences’ was no surprise; her beautifully controlled emoting has centered the films she’s appeared in since she made off with Soderbergh’s ‘Solaris.’

Her new home is somewhat more expansive than her old one. Her next film appearance will be a starring role in ‘Widows,’ due in theaters next year.
