A Harlem townhouse once owned by Bob Dylan has come up for sale. The property, located on 139th and 8th Ave., was purchased by the new owners from Dylan in 2000, for $560K. It has been listed for $3.689 million.

Extensively renovated toward a balance of modern amenities and historical accuracy, the home now contains restored inlaid hardwood parquet and wide-plank pine floors, wood columns and staircase, pocket doors, and wainscoting and crown molding. Nearly all of the hardwood is original oak. There are six original fireplaces and 10’ ceilings, and there are ten rooms overall across the building’s four floors, with five bedrooms and 2.5 baths.

The first-floor kitchen received a solid modern renovation, with a large island with five burner cooktop, a double Subzero fridge, and built-in temperature-controlled wine storage. The appliances are brushed stainless, which contrasts nicely with all the original hardwood, and the antique features retained and highlighted through the update.

The second floor is the traditional parlor level, with dining and living areas, and third and fourth levels contain library, guest rooms, and master suite, respectively.

The building row was designed by McKim Mead and White, and dates to the beginning of the last century. It is situated on Striver’s Row, or the St. Nicholas Historic District, a neighborhood musicians and composers W.C. Handy and Fletcher Henderson once called home.

Last year, Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, a testament to his historic, and continuing, relevance. His next studio album release will be ‘Triplicate,’ and will be available later this month.
