Controversial NFL Quarterback Colin Kaepernick Gets $3.1M in Bay Area Home Sale

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick has sold his home in San Jose, and for more than the asking price. The 49ers star had listed the house initially last December, and priced it at $2.895 million. The home sold for $3.075 million. Kaepernick purchased the property in 2007, for $2.7 million.

The Spanish-influenced house’s exterior is pleasingly traditional: offset, multicolored brick drive, stucco walls, semicircular tile roof, wrought-iron second floor plant-balcony balustrade, and a nicely eclectic blend of window styles. The double front door is dramatic, and belies the home’s late-1990’s construction vintage.

The interior measures 4,600 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and 5.5 baths. Kaepernick remodeled it extensively during his years of ownership, and warm tones predominate. Mid-toned hardwood flooring, and cabinetry and paneling finished in cherry or mahogany, help to create a somewhat brooding atmosphere.

A tiled foyer floor, with marble border and accents, defines the transition into the house; the foyer features a skylight and in-wall aquarium, and breaks nicely to tiled staircase, salon, billiards room and living room. The kitchen is textured with stainless and grey granite, with the cherry cabinetry and tiled floor as softening influences. Bathrooms are tiled in natural stone, mosaic, or subway tile. The master suite features a private balcony with sweeping views of the valley.

The home’s exterior features landscaped lawn and gardens, and a natural stone freeform pool and spa. There is a waterfall feature and cabana.

The sale possibly comes ahead of an expected professional shift into free agency for Kaepernick, although a recent tete-a-tete with 49ers brass indicated there is a good possibility the quarterback will remain with the team for another season.
