Florida-based, Toyota-specialist workshop FJ Company has taken a classic 1981 FJ45 Toyota Land Cruiser and gone above and beyond by restoring it way past its former glory. The new creation, Troopy, is certainly upgraded from when it first rolled off the Toyota factory floor more than 25 years ago.

The FJ45 in question has had a long life. It served as a troop transport vehicle for the Colombian National Guard, at a national university, and even as a vehicle for a foundation for troubled youth. Now it has new life with a custom makeover that’s impressive enough to be featured on an automotive TV show.

FJ Customs stripped the FJ45 down to its body and rebuilt it from the ground up. The Florida shop worked the wheelbase, fender flares, and headlight bezels perfectly back to their former shape. The exterior was given Toyota’s OEM Beige color, and instead of the usual hardtop, FJ Customs gave the Land Cruiser a custom soft top. The lighting was upgraded to be brighter, and all of the FJ45 and Toyota badges were replaced with new, original editions of the emblems.

Inside the Troopy are front bucket seats, a second-row bench seat, and a pair of fold-down seats in the very rear that have all been finished in a tan vinyl. FJ Customs also added new air conditioning and a vibrant sound system to modernize the FJ45.

Under the hood is Toyota’s 3F engine, the most powerful powerplant the company has ever made, which has been paired with an automatic transmission.
