Singer and actor Mary J. Blige’s Saddle River estate has seen another price reduction. Initially listed at $13 million in 2015, the property is now asking $8.9 million. Blige paid $12.8 million in 2008.

Set on four acres, the main residence is a palatial Chateauesque house measuring nearly 20,000 square feet, and containing eight bedrooms and 11.5 baths. The double-door entry opens to a two-floor foyer floored in marble tile; there is a Moroccan-influenced geometric design set into the tile, and a second-floor wrought iron balustrade above.

Elsewhere, floors are herringbone oak, plank oak, and sandstone tile. There is a great deal of hand-carved wood ornament in the home, including the kitchen, the office/study, and great room. Arched portals lend an invitational quality, and soft-toning sways effortlessly from cool to warm. Ceilings are generally coffered or recessed, and crown moldings are plentiful but fairly understated.

The wine cellar is nicely rendered in natural wood; unpretentious, and generously proportioned. There is also a home theater, indoor basketball court, and home fitness center. A home sauna presents a nice refuge, and the master suite, privately tucked away, contains its own sitting room, and a double-sided fireplace.

The property exterior features a slate pool/lounge area, cobblestone drive, and formally landscaped lawns and gardens. A pool house provides a guest residence on the property.

Mary J. Blige has sold tens of millions of records worldwide. Her unique fusion of hip-hop and soul is regarded as seminal to the evolution of the R&B style in the 21st century. Blige is also an accomplished actress, appearing most recently in period drama ‘Mudbound,’ which premiered at Sundance a little over a week ago.
