Ricoh has planted itself in the start-up photographer market with its new Pentax KP compact DSLR.

The weather-sealed camera boasts a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor that is able to shoot at a high-end maximum ISO of 819,200.

The Pentax KP’s body comes with a tilting LCD screen, a large optical viewfinder, and direct control of the device thanks to a series of dials for mode, control, and exposure bracketing modes.

Photographers with larger hands have no need to fear using the smaller camera thanks to interchangeable grips, with the medium and large sizes included with the sale of the camera in North America.

An interesting feature Ricoh gave its new Pentax KP is the same five-axis Shake Reduction System with Pixel Shift Resolution that is featured on the brand’s full-frame K-1 model.

The Pentax KP boasts video at up to 1080p at 30 frames per second, while the autofocus embedded is a 27-point system.

Ricoh is set to begin selling the Pentax KP in late February with a starting price of $1,100.
