London-based designer Andy Martin has used a layering technique of blending contrasting colors of clear and semi-opaque resin to create his new mesmerizing Blocks tables.

The semi-opaque resin offers a glow when light hits the table, while the clear resin gives off a distorted perspective of what is on the other side.

Martin’s collection includes a taller table that is supported by a single column and offers a bright yellow top. Another piece features concentric blue and pink rings on the table top with an effect created by circular pieces of resin set into each other.

Martin began working with resin as a teenager to make surfboards and continues to use the challenging material to make architectural models. Resin can be hard to cast without creating air bubbles, but Martin meticulously focuses on getting a perfect surface from the material in order to create the desired optical illusions.

Martin, who also founded the architectural firm AMA in 2000, debuted an earlier addition to the Blocks collection, but these contrasting pieces of resin were joined into a singular block.
