Lamborghini hasn’t settled with its already-fabulous version of the Aventador S, so the Italian company has given its flagship model a bit of a makeover by making the supercar even more powerful.

Lamborghini did two things to make the new Aventador S special. First, it dissected and optimized the engine’s airflow, variable camshaft timing, and intake manifolds to help pump out more horsepower. Second, it made the new version of the S the first production rear-wheel drive model.

The V12 engine in the Aventador S now makes 740 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque to give it a top speed of 217 mph.

All of this extra power and new performance handling meant that Lamborghini had to give the design of the Aventador S a facelift as well. To accommodate, the Italian giant gave the model a more aggressive splitter to prevent air from causing lift under the car and scoops in the rear to help cool the brakes.

The result is 130 percent more downforce in the front end and 400 percent more in the rear of the S due to a new spoiler. A new gauge cluster offers multiple display modes and Apple CarPlay now comes standard in the S.

Lamborghini will begin production on the new Aventador S soon, with the price slated to begin at $421,350.
