Oscar-Winning Screenwriter Akiva Goldsman buys Pacific Palisades Home From Former SAG and MPAA CEO for $8.4M

A month after listing his enchanting Beverly Hills estate for $12.5 million, Akiva Goldsman has taken possession of a European country-style in Pacific Palisades for $8.375 million. The property is a considerably more pragmatic choice of lifestyle.

The home, which sits on about a three-quarter acre lot, is a 5,800 square foot affair designed by Pete Choate, who was an all-the-rage starchitect in the 1970’s and 80’s, designing homes for Linda Ronstadt and heavyweight director Alan J. Pakula, among others. In keeping with the prevailing style of the period, the style of the home is firmly located in European country sensibilities, for the breezy insouciance of upper-end California living.

With six bedrooms and five baths (and a quarter), somewhat-formal living and dining rooms, and a wine-cellar, the home is, in its way, nearly as escapist a retreat as the property Goldsman currently has on the market. The interior is incredibly bright, with a good deal of pale-toned exposed wood, and soft hardwood flooring; a somewhat washed-out look, appealingly dreamlike, predominates, with three-centered arches lending a nice ebb and flow, and almost blindingly white bedrooms. A geometric dining room is rimmed entirely in glass, with windows offering plentiful views, and a master suite terrace boasts a survey of landscape and Pacific.

The property exterior offers gardens, a stone patio for outdoor seating, and pool. In one corner of the property a fountain and wrought-iron bench rest amid greenery for a meditative mood. Altogether, a very pleasant bit of representative 70’s SoCal residential architectural flash from Peter Choate, and, interestingly, a property owned for several decades by SAG and MPAA ex-CEO Robert Pisano.

Akiva Goldsman is a screenwriter, best known for taking home a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for 2001’s ‘A Beautiful Mind.’ He directed the 2014 romantic mystery ‘Winter’s Tale,’ as well as the upcoming ‘Stephanie,’ due for release in the coming year.
