‘Resident Evil’ Director Paul W.S. Anderson and Actress Wife Milla Jovovich Sell Venice Home for $3.5M

The resident writer and frequent director of the ‘Resident Evil’ film franchise, Paul W.S. Anderson, recently sold his house in the Venice Canals. The deal was conducted quietly, with papers passed to an unnamed buyer who passed Anderson $3.495 million in return. Anderson purchased the home in the spring of 1999 for $1.325 million, so he made out fairly well on the 17-year investment.

The design foundation of the 2,600 square foot, two story house is pleasing, if compact. Like any good contemporary, it features long, clean, intersecting lines, and spins utilitarian as romantic. The decorative veneer is pleasantly comfortable, with arched ceilings lending a sense of expansion, and plenty of glass for abundant natural light.

The kitchen is finished in earth tones, with varnished wood, black granite, and soapstone. The three bedrooms and 2.5 baths are bright and clean, and there is a master suite with fireplace and private balcony. Most interesting are the uniquely adventurous catwalk and floating staircase, which lead to a cozy rooftop alcove with terrace with spa. Altogether, an artful use of limited available space, and a relaxing getaway. But Anderson does, of course, own other properties.

Paul W.S. Anderson was born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England; his first major film was 1994’s ‘Shopping,’ followed by 1997’s ‘Event Horizon,’ a satanic take on Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1972 philosophical sci-fi ‘Solaris.’ Anderson has directed fourteen films to date, many of them adaptations of existing video-game franchises.

Anderson is married to Milla Jovovich, star of the ‘Resident Evil’ films; Jovovich plays Alice, the character who revises Emma Peel catsuit karate by adding machine guns, forcefully demonstrating that neither feline nor basic black will ever go out of style.
